Programs & Services Family Service of the Cincinnati Area

Family Service has six core programs.

1.  Clinical Counseling  345-8555

Our therapists help people find solutions to difficult problems.  Therapists have master’s degrees in Social Work and related fields.  Counseling topics include issues such as:

      • Substance Abuse - We help the chemically dependent recognize the impact of substances on their lives and families and to recover.
      • Sex Abuse - We offer incest victims and their families counseling and therapy groups to ease the pain and create changes to prevent further abuse.
      • Family Violence - We assist individuals and families in creating a climate to prevent further violence and emotional trauma.
      • Aging - We counsel the elderly and their children to confront issues such as loneliness, depression, and responsibility so that all generations work towards the best solution.

Fees are set on a sliding scale and insurance reimbursement is possible.

2.  Employee Assistance Resource Network  733-3800

Companies contract with our EAP to provide counseling that helps employees deal with personal problems before they affect job performance.

3.  Life Skills Education and Training  345-8545

We offer workshops in the community for schools, businesses and organizations on workplace topics and day-to-day concerns.   Workshops include Leadership, Conflict Resolution, Team Building, Communication, Coping with Stress and Change, Money Management, and Parenting Skills.

4.  School Based Services  345-8554

Counselors and case managers work in 16 schools in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky to help youngsters achieve school success. Services include one-on-one counseling through the School Attendance and Drop-Out Prevention Programs for children with high absenteeism; Three Plus Program for third graders who have failed promotion three times; Crisis Intervention and At-Risk Juvenile Programs for emotionally and behaviorally at-risk students.

5. International Family Resource Center 721-7660

We help immigrants and refugees assimilate and become productive citizens through English as a second language classes, citizenship education, job training and placement and specialized counseling. We serve as a resource on multi-culturalism and offer translation services to the community.

6. Friends of the Children

Friends of the Children is a new Family Service initiative for at-risk school-age children. Based on a program founded in Portland, OR, Friends of the Children provides our most vulnerable children with a full time, paid adult role model who develops an intensive, one to one, long-term relationship with each child.

We are partnering with KnowledgeWorks Foundation, Hamilton County Department of Human Services and the Foundation for Family Service to bring this unique and innovative program to Hamilton County.

If you are interested in becoming a Friend or contributing to the program in some way, please send a resume to: Tracey Knight, Program Director, 3740 Glenway Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45205
